Since the 90s, racing games have been wreaking havoc on consoles, especially Sony’s Playstation. It’s much more accessible to get behind the wheel of a virtual Ferrari or Lamborghini than it is in real life. Well, except perhaps for those with millions of euros in their bank accounts.
Be that as it may, the Go-To of racing games was Gran Turismo, and this is still the case on Sony’s latest console. This saga has matured well over the years, always delivering a realistic and immersive experience for thrill-seeking gamers.
Wanting to ride this wave, Microsoft released its very first simulation racing game on Xbox: Forza Motorsport, released in the 2000s. It was an unexpected success, to say the least, and the saga now boasts its 8th entry, available since the end of 2023.
In 2012, Microsoft wanted to test the temperature by offering a fun variant of its legendary racing game, and the result was Forza Horizon. The title’s debut wasn’t very well received by the Xbox gaming community, but Microsoft didn’t want to give up, because after a few years, Forza Horizon has become a staple of the racing scene, both on consoles (different generations of Xbox) and on PC.
The saga really took off with the third opus, when the map became a huge open-world racing arena. The latest title is Forza Horizon 5, set in Mexico with its sumptuous scenery and landscapes.
Will there be a Forza Horizon 6?
This question is on the lips of every fan of the saga: will there be a sequel to Forza Horizon 5? Well, according to the rumor mill, yes, there will indeed be a Forza Horizon 6, which is even in the works for a release not too far away, if the rumors on the web are anything to go by.
As you’re no doubt aware, Forza Horizon 5 was released just over three and a half years ago (end of 2021), with over 400 vehicles available to drive from day one. Today, that list has grown by almost 50%, and FH 5 offers over 700 cars in all categories. We have classics, GTIs, Super Cars, Hyper Cars, buggies, Monster Trucks, and even a sequence with a bus! It has to be said that the saga touches on just about everything in motor racing, while offering magnificent landscapes in a fictional Mexico and a driving style that’s all about fun.

What do we know about Forza Horizon 6?
Well, let’s face it: the information that has filtered out about FH 6 is rather meagre. However, development studio Playground Games is said to have launched the recruitment of several talents, which would indicate that it is already working on the sequel to FH 5, i.e. the sixth opus in the saga. As for profiles and numbers, I have no information to share.
Also, according to some reports, the game’s racing venue will most likely be Japan, where the racing scene is more than popular. If true, this would be a wise choice, as the land of the rising sun has a specific culture in terms of cars and customization. What’s more, the Supra, Skyline and S13 originated in Japan, and everyone knows that the Japanese invented drifting. The sliding prowess was born from the hand, and the car, of a driver named Kunimitsu Takahashi, who is a motorsport legend to put it simply.
As for the cars, we can expect more of the same from Forza Horizon 5: there will be hundreds of cars to drive, customize and use to smash the clock. Of course, the map will still be open-world, but we have no information on its size. We know that the FH 5 map is over 120 km wide, so it’s only to be expected that the Forza Horizon 6 map will be larger, or at least the same size. On the other hand, it’s clear that Microsoft and Playground Games are going for drift this time, with Formula Drift specs, neon circuits and a techno soundtrack. More or less a reincarnation of Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift.
What about the release date for Forza Horizon 6?
Well, on that point, it remains unclear. We know that development studios, and publishers too, tend to maintain a certain regularity in the release dates of their best-selling titles. In the case of Forza Horizon, sales always start towards the end of the year. FH 5 was released at the end of 2021, FH 4 was released at the end of 2018 and Forza Horizon 6 is expected to be released at the end of 2024.
However, rumors have it that the title won’t be released until 2025, and this is confirmed when we see that Forza Motorsport 8 has been delayed by several months. But we’ll probably have more information on FH 6 soon, perhaps with a trailer, a release date and also the platforms on which the game will be available.
