The Gran Turismo saga on the Playstation no longer really needs an introduction. As soon as you broach the subject of console racing simulation, you think directly of Sony‘s flagship title. The first opus was released over 25 years ago on the PS1, and the adventure has never ceased to amaze us, whether visually or in terms of driving. Gran Turismo remains an industry benchmark, and Sony isn’t about to change that.
Exclusively on Playstation, the saga has not been ported to other platforms over the years. However, numerous Sony titles have been released on PC over the last 5 years, and rumors of a GT7 PC port have become an almost daily topic of discussion. Will Gran Turismo see the light of day on PC? It would seem so, according to what’s being said on the web.
A portage that will soon become a reality
According to rumors, mainly from a leaker working at Nixxes, a studio responsible for adapting Playstation titles for PC, Gran Turismo was scheduled for PC release in 2024. This rumor first emerged at the start of the year, and it’s now December, which could indicate that Sony has decided to shift its schedule for releasing Gran Turismo 7 on PC in order to optimize its title. Let’s not forget that the Japanese firm has released the PS5 Pro, which has received a very negative reception from the community due to its exorbitant price tag, and that a GT7 version with better graphics will certainly see the light of day on this new console.
On the one hand, it’s understandable that Sony would prefer to allocate resources to establishing its dominance of the console market with an improved version of Gran Turismo 7 before releasing it on PC. It should not be forgotten that the Japanese brand is determined to expand its games catalog to other platforms, mainly PC, as this has proved to be very lucrative in recent years.
No more Playstation exclusives
Over the past 5 years or so, Sony has shown its intention to conquer the PC platform by porting its flagship games to it, notably God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima, but also Days Gone, Ratchet and Clank and Spider-Man. Of course, PC ports generally take a few years to see the light of day, and this makes sense from a business plan point of view: with a Playstation exclusive, PC gamers will be much more tempted to buy a Sony console than to wait 2-3 years for one of their favorite games to hit Steam or the Epic Games Store. This not only gives Sony a console sale, even if these are traded at a loss for the company, but also a game sale, and potentially online services.
As a result, there’s not much left in terms of Playstation exclusivity, from Sony at least, except for Gran Turismo, and a few other games that aren’t really developed/published by the Japanese brand. Which brings us to Microsoft’s competition.

Microsoft: the undisputed king of platforms
With the acquisition of ZeniMax and Activision, Microsoft, and its Xbox gaming branch, is now the undisputed king of platforms, especially when it comes to Game Pass. At the start of 2024, this subscription service counted nearly 40 million active accounts worldwide, bringing in some $300 million a month for the American firm.
Sony can’t stand up to the bulldozer that is Microsoft on its own turf, even though the PS5 has sold twice as many units as the Xbox Series. That’s why the Richmond-based firm has changed course in its business plan, offering an online service featuring over 400 “free” titles, including Blocbusters like Call of Duty.
So when is GT7 coming to PC?
Well, the first leaks said sometime in 2024. Except that the year is drawing to a close and still nothing on PC, and Sony has tended to avoid the subject of late. We hope that the simulation game has only been delayed for technical reasons, as sim-racers are eagerly awaiting it on their setup with DD steering wheel and LC pedals.
