For some time now, we’ve been seeing a brand with an ever-growing presence on the global sim-racing scene. I’m talking, of course, about the Chinese manufacturer who has come out of nowhere: Moza Racing. It’s amazing that in such a short space of time, such a brand has managed to make a name for itself in an industry that is really, really competitive.

It has to be said that major industry players more or less dominate the various market segments, be they low-end, mid-range or premium. Each brand is unique, with an equally specific pool of customers. For example, Logitech Logitech and Thrustmaster are more in the entry/mid-range segment, with peripherals that aren’t at the cutting edge of technology (apart from their new Direct Drive base outputs), but still offer an immersive experience if you’re not too picky. For Fanatec and Simagic for example, this is the premium segment, with high-performance, high-quality products. And we also have Simucube which is more or less in a unique market, that of pure and simple simulation, with products mainly used by motor racing teams.

And what about Moza Racing? Well, in my opinion, the brand is trying to do a bit of everything: reach the entry-level segment with its R3 bundle, but also titillate the big names in the industry with a base model delivering 21 nm of torque: the R21. But you also need steering wheels for sim-racing, and that’s just as well, because Moza offers some good ones, including the CS V2P, which we’ll take a look at next.

Main and technical characteristics of the wheel

  • Aluminum alloy structure
  • 33 cm diameter with an all-round wheel
  • Perforated leather all around
  • 2 forged carbon fiber magnetic paddles, 6 mechanical buttons, 2 joysticks and 2 switches
  • Compatible with all Moza bases
  • QR based on D1-Spec at rear
  • RevLED on top of front panel

CS V2P design

The overall design of the CS V2P is rather sober: black and dark gray dominate the entire wheel. The steering wheel is simple in its look, with a diameter of 33 cm and entirely round. In the center, you’ll find all the controls on a kind of Fanatec-style module, which is perfectly integrated into the faceplate.

The leather trim is black, with a white band at the top. All in all, the CS V2P is a very handsome, premium steering wheel, especially with the aluminum finish.

Customized assembly

As with all Moza Racing steering wheels, the CS V2P comes with the brand’s QR, based on the D1-Spec. As a result, installing it on a steering wheel is a child-friendly operation.

As for the compatibility of the CS V2P steering wheel with the bases of the Chinese sim-racing peripherals manufacturer, it’s not the usual story of compartmentalization of the range. The CS V2P can be used with all Moza bases, except for the R3, which is clearly aimed at a sim-racing enthusiast. To be completely frank with you, this is the case with virtually all Moza V2 steering wheels, as the brand has changed the mode of communication between its new wheels and its bases.

Manufacturing and finishing

The CS V2P is one of the brand’s mid-range steering wheels, with a premium finish. On the menu: aluminum alloy for the structure, leather for the rim and forged carbon fiber for the paddles.

It’s top quality in every way. I really have nothing to say about it, whether it’s the leather, the brushed aluminum, the structure on the back, the buttons, or anything else. It’s top quality, and that’s to be expected given the price at which this little gem is sold.

As for the finish, I didn’t notice any flaws, gaps between parts or anything else. Even the button stickers are well centered, which says a lot about the brand’s quality control, which has come a long way in recent years.

Handling the wheel

With a diameter of 33 cm and an all-round wheel, the CS V2P is big. This may appeal to some riders, as it may not to everyone. On this point, my opinion doesn’t really matter, because the size of a wheel is subjective.

Even though the wheel has a diameter that tends to echo car steering wheels, the grip is excellent, especially as this steering wheel is big on leather. Your hands are superbly in place when you’re doing sim-racing sessions, and the driving position is slightly lower than the usual 09H15. Personally, I think it’s better this way, as your shoulders will be in a more natural, downward position, which is beneficial for long sim-racing sessions (less fatigue).

As for the buttons and their ergonomics, they’re top-notch. You can feel that Moza has taken its time to study the placement of the controls, which are all very close to your hands. Hats off to you guys, really. What’s more, there aren’t as many of them as on the KS or ES, for example.

Sensations during play

As I said above, the CS V2P is compatible with all the bases currently offered by Moza Racing in its catalog, but if you want some advice, avoid the R5, or even the R9 in some cases, and I’ll explain right after.

On an R12, this steering wheel is a pure marvel, with its entirely round shape, but also its high level of grip thanks to the quality leather. The wheel is easy to get to grips with, and relatively large to hold, which enhances its ergonomics. What’s more, its weight of just over 3 kg doesn’t penalize the base you’re on all that much, especially on an R12 or R16.

Compared with other steering wheels in the same segment, the CS V2P is a hair heavy for a base developing less than 10 nm. At Fanatec, for example, the ClubSport Steering Wheel RS is practically the same as the CS V2P, being around 600g lighter, and the difference can be felt in the base. I’m not saying that this Moza steering wheel is bad, it’s just that it’s a bit heavy, which means you may have to switch to a more powerful base to avoid clipping, as can sometimes happen on an R9, for example.

Opinions on Moza Racing CS V2P for Sim Racing

CS V2P compatibility

The CS V2P is, contrary to all expectations, compatible with all Moza Racing bases except the R3. But then, this wheel costs almost as much as the manufacturer’s entry-level bundle, so…

As far as the platform is concerned, we’re still on PC only, and that’s to be expected since Moza’s bases are only compatible with Windows computers, except for the R3, which is also Xbox compatible.

As far as sim-racing titles are concerned, the selection is quite extensive, including F1 2022, Project Cas, AC, ACC, iRacing, rFactor and more. Fans of sim-racing will find plenty to enjoy in Moza’s catalog.

Value for money

The CS V2P is priced at around €300, or even less depending on the online retailer. As far as I’m concerned, the value for money of this wheel is simply excellent, especially when compared with competitors like Simagic.

The aluminum is top-quality, as is the leather, and the controls (buttons) are mechanical, adding to the steering wheel’s premium look.

My verdict on the CS V2P steering wheel from Moza Racing

Is this steering wheel for you? Well, yes, if you already have a complete Moza setup. The price is right on target: neither too expensive nor too cheap. The build quality is excellent, and the feel is good if you have a powerful enough base (R12 or higher).

Should I recommend this steering wheel to all riders? Well, it depends. If you want to use it for your rig, make sure you have at least an R12 as a base, to avoid clipping or peripheral saturation. Its weight of over 3 kg is felt on bases developing less than 10 nm of torque, well not on all sim-racing titles. But it’s still a great steering wheel, if you ask me.
