If your passion is seeing crumpled metal sheets and destroying vehicles, Wreckfest will do you a world of good as therapy. This “demolition race” game will see its second opus appear on Xbox Series X and S, Playstation 5 and PC. And those with a Steam account will even be able to play it ahead of the others in early access on March 20, 2025.

A brief history of Wreckfest

Wreckfest is a game developed by the Finnish studio Bugbear Entertainment, responsible for the FlatOut saga which saw the light of day some twenty years ago. At the time, demolition-race games were very popular, and you’ve no doubt played EA’s Burnout. Personally, I loved the Burnout series, where you can literally blow up your opponents’ vehicles in sequences worthy of Hollywood movies.

Released in 2018, Wreckfest first of the name was a hit in the racing game category, with highly detailed graphics. Between the collisions, physics effects and shocks, it really felt like a crash or demilition race, which is ultra-popular in some US states. A little anecdote: the Americans have competitions in which cars are thrown off cliffs. The aim is to see which car can travel the furthest before disintegrating. It’s really crazy, both literally and figuratively.

Wreckfest 2 Early access

Wreckfest 2: early access on Steam from the end of March

Wreckfest 2 was announced in August 2024 with a trailer featuring a car that looks a lot like the Chargers of the 60s and 70s, doing barrel rolls. And on THQ Nordic‘s YouTube channel, the video announcing early access to Wreckfest 2 has been posted. It shows impressive details on the cars, such as tires disintegrating, engines catching fire and, of course, crumpled sheet metal. This early access is for PC players on Steam, and will start on March 20, 2025.

Title availability

For the moment, only the early access date has been announced. We also know that the game will be available on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PS5, the current platforms. It would appear that there will be no port to Xbox One and PS4, as is the case with virtually all games released now.
