In the sim-racing market, there are manufacturers who offer a complete catalog of racing simulation peripherals including steering wheels, bases, pedals, shifters and other products and accessories, and there are brands that specialize solely in steering wheels, as well as other sim-racing-related products.

For manufacturers who touch everything, we have Fanatec, Logitech, Moza Racing, Asetek, Simagic, and many other world-famous names. Of course, there are also brands that sail the sim-racing market without making any waves, and some names may slip under your radar.

BavarianSimTec belongs to this second group of sim-racing brands that aren’t exactly household names, but their products are simply outstanding. Today we have the OmegaPro V2 wheel, a Formula wheel that is ultra-premium for riders who are on the verge of turning professional. Is this the wheel for you? Let’s find out.

Main and technical features of the steering wheel

  • 30 cm diameter with rectangular shape typical of Formula wheels
  • 4.3” diagonal faceplate display
  • SimHub and PC compatible
  • 1.25 kg on the scale
  • Aluminum structure machined by CNC machines
  • 23 total controls (front + rear) and 6 paddles
  • Standard 6×70 mm mounting pattern
  • Available with QR for Simucube bases and spacers if required
  • RevLED on the top of the screen, with RGB on the sides too

Omegapro v2 design

The design of the OmegaPro V2 is racecar-like from every angle. From the faceplate featuring the 4.3″ screen and controls, to the grips and rear paddles, Formula inspiration is evident on this steering wheel.

The front panel is fully illuminated by the RGB of the controls, which can make this steering wheel very flashy if you like, or not at all if you’re someone who prefers discreet wheels.

The display occupies the center of the steering wheel (figuratively and literally), and the brand wanted it that way. It displays telemetry data on your sim-racing sessions. It is, of course, configurable, as are the RGB colors and LEDs. All in all, the OmegaPro V2 remains a handsome, no-nonsense steering wheel.

Customized assembly

The OmegaPro V2 is designed for use with various Direct Drive bases. As such, it includes a standard Quick Release mounting system at the rear. But if you don’t want to make too much of a fuss and already have a Simucube base, BavarianSimTec suggests you buy their QR, which is compatible with Simucube bases.

And if you’re on a different ecosystem, all you need to do is buy the QR and hub to use this steering wheel. The connection between the hub and the PC is via USB, and the cable is supplied in the box.

Wheel manufacture and finishing

The OmegaPro V2’s shell is made entirely of aluminum to ensure a high level of resistance, and a contained weight. In fact, the wheel weighs in at 1.25 kg, not including the QR of course.

In terms of build quality, we’re talking about the very top of the market. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s ultra-premium, well above what Simucube offers as far as I’m concerned.

The finish is just as exquisite on this steering wheel, with great attention to detail. You won’t be able to find a flaw on the OmegaPro V2, no matter how you look at it.

Handling the steering wheel

The wheel has a diameter of 300 mm, and is rectangular in shape. As the screen occupies the center of the wheel, the controls are distributed around it. We’re talking buttons, rotarys and switches here. These are very close to your hands, making them easy to use in the middle of a race. At the rear, 6 paddles (4 magnetic and 2 analog) and 2 indexing buttons are located. The spacing of the paddles can be adjusted, enhancing the ergonomics of the steering wheel. Also, the USB cable is located below the QR and should not interfere with your racing movements.

Sensations during play

To get the most out of the OmegaPro V2, you need a base that puts out a good level of torque, preferably in the 15 – 20 nm range (like the Clubsport DD+). And once you’ve made that match on your sim-racing setup, this wheel is simply outstanding to drive with.

The element that came up the most during my test was the grip. The OmegaPro V2 is a typical Formula wheel, with a rectangular shape and downward-opening handles. Thanks to a 13° angle on these handles, the grip on the OmegaPro V2 is phenomenal. This is accentuated by the handle material, which offers a high level of grip without compromising comfort. In fact, you can drive for hours with this steering wheel without tiring, and that’s saying a lot for the OmegaPro V2.

Another positive point about the steering wheel is its weight. It’s light, even when only aluminum is used. Usually, to get a wheel under 1.3 kg, the manufacturer has to use carbon fiber. But here, this objective is achieved with aluminum only, but the weight is displayed without QR, as the Quick Release adds a good half kilo to the minimum.

And if not, I don’t have much more to say about this steering wheel, because it’s simply exceptional. I have to confess that shopping the OmegaPro V2 range is above all an exercise in taste: either you like the steering wheel visually, or you don’t, because on the technical side, love at first sight is guaranteed.

Wheel compatibility

The OmegaPro V2 is a steering wheel compatible only with the Windows PC platform. As I’ve often said, peripherals at the top of the sim-racing range are almost exclusively PC-compatible. And if you take it up a notch, it’s only this platform that’s supported, for a variety of reasons, all of which are obvious.

Another point concerning compatibility is SimHub. The OmegaPro V2 is supported by the software, or the steering wheel supports the software, depending on how you look at it, so you can map all the controls and configure the dashboards.

Value for money

Fasten your seatbelts, because we’re going through some turbulence as we approach the price. The OmegaPro V2 is priced at €2,180. That’s literally the price of a mid-range setup from Simagic, Fanatec, Moza, or even Asetek if you go for the La Prima range.

Is it expensive? Excessively so for Sunday drivers. But is it good value for money? Well, I think so. The OmegaPro V2 is right up there with the ultra-premium wheels on the market.

My verdict on the Omegapro v2 steering wheel

Professional sim-racing fans know full well that a steering wheel like this is a range unto itself. You won’t find the same from mainstream brands, because this is a product designed and manufactured by sim-racing enthusiasts who are also professionals in their trade.

The target audience is clear: racing simulation fans with a substantial budget and a driving experience that’s often put to the test on the track at weekends. As far as I’m concerned, the OmegaPro V2 is one of my favorite steering wheels.
