Until now, FullForce has been associated mainly with Fanatec‘s high-end bases. That changes on June 16, 2026: a free firmware update brings it to the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro, two of the brand’s most accessible and widespread Direct Drives. The info comes from Tobias Stelzer, VP and General Manager of Fanatec, with more details promised later this week.

Cutting-edge technology moves downmarket

A useful reminder: FullForce is Fanatec’s proprietary force feedback protocol. It superimposes high-fidelity vibrations on the main FFB signal, allowing developers to add fine sensations such as asphalt grain, engine vibrations or the first signs of loss of grip. Seeing it arrive on entry- and mid-range bases, through a simple free update, is not insignificant: it’s a function hitherto reserved for more expensive models.

The PlayStation advantage

It’s on the Gran Turismo DD Pro that the calculation is most telling. Its combined PC and PlayStation compatibility makes it a gateway to Gran Turismo 7, which already supports FullForce. For GT7 gamers, the addition comes at a good time, even if the base remains on its 5 or 8 Nm depending on the power supply. On the PC side, the CSL DD benefits from the same protocol, provided the games follow suit.

The downside that puts everything into perspective

And that’s where you have to be careful. FullForce only works if developers implement it in their titles. The update provides the capability, not the content. Gran Turismo 7 is already compatible; on PC, each studio decides, and the real interest will depend on this adoption. On paper, it’s seductive; in reality, the value will be measured game by game.

Fanatec’s calculation

Then there’s the strategic reading, and it’s a coherent one. Rather than constantly pushing out new bases, Fanatec optimizes the existing ones and builds loyalty among a community already equipped. This is in line with its recent opening, such as the announced hub for third-party steering wheels. For CSL DD or GT DD Pro owners, the equation is simple: a free update costs nothing to install. It remains to be seen how many games, apart from GT7, will really give it substance.
